The palace was built from 1651 to 1654 by the Zittau master builder Valentin for the mayor Christian von Hartig . It has a rectangular floor plan and the castle entrance is flanked by two octagonal towers with Welschen domes, whereby the right, smaller tower was added as a stair tower in 1853. The vestibule is also an ingredient from 1892. On the older, left tower, the inscription was on a walled-in plaque:

“The pleasant leisure
the honorable occupation and spirit of the place
because of the attraction of the location, this part has been consecrated
Christian von Hartig in Hörnitz
Knight of the Order of St. Mark "

The lower floor of the old tower is covered by a cross vault. Hartig's son, Jakob, carried out alchemical experiments with the inventor of the burning mirror and basic researcher for Meissen porcelain , Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus . The laboratory caught fire. Jakob fled and the frightened villagers managed to banish the black artist Tschirnhaus . It is certain that important discussions about the development of Meissen porcelain took place in Hörnitz. Tschirnhaus then supervised Böttger's experiments . Christian von Hartig was the first to run a greenhouse, a greenhouse and an orangery in Zittau and the surrounding area, for which he imported rare flowers. Althörnitz remained in the possession of the von Hartig family until 1771 . It was followed by Karl August von Kyaw , who sold it to Johann Gottfried Kämmel from Waltersdorf in 1781 . In 1826 it belonged to Ernst Wilhelm Friedrich Just , from 1840 to Moritz von Beschwitz from Großschweidnitz and from 1871 to Mr. Heisen from Annaberg, who immediately afterwards built a spirit steam distillery for potatoes and one of the largest cowsheds.

Then in 1881 the Saxon chamberlain Hans Rudolf von Sandersleben acquired the manor and the property belonging to it. Neuhörnitz and Althörnitz were united on July 1, 1912. After the Second World War, the von Sandersleben family was expropriated and the property was then inhabited by resettlers. From 1948 to 1991 vacationers of the Federation of Trade Unions of the GDR (FDGB) were looked after here under simple conditions. Despite the great help from the community of Bertsdorf-Hörnitz, the buildings subsequently fell into disrepair.
