Hartig (Czech Hartigové ) is the name of a Catholic , Bohemian , today Austrian noble family of Silesian origin, whose direct lineage begins with Martin Hartig (* around 1500 in Eichmannsdorf ; † before 1554), a trader in Löwenberg ( Duchy of Schweidnitz-Jauer ). His son Jacob Hartig (1534-1607), since 1561 citizens in Zittau ( Saxony ), was there and Commercial Councilor and church elder . Johann Jakobs eldest son Johann Esaias von Hartig received the confirmation of the knightly imperial nobility as a Bohemian knighthood on July 27, 1668 in Vienna , the imperial nobility confirmation with improvement of the coat of arms took place on December 19, 1668 in Vienna for the siblings Johann Isaias , Franz Christian , Johann Jakob , Sibylla and Susanna von Hartig . The Bohemian confirmation of the imperial knighthood took place on March 13, 1669 in Vienna for Johann Esaias Ritter von Hartig as kuk real court counselor and trainee lawyer at the Bohemian court chancellery , who was also accepted into the Bohemian old gentry on July 30, 1700 . The elevation to the imperial baronage followed on September 1, 1707 in Vienna. In the county of Glatz he had in 1668 from his cousin Margareta Sachs born. von Hartig inherited Rücker's rule . During the reign of Rückers in 1684, he acquired the chamber villages of Jauernig , Nerbotin , Löschney , Keilendorf , Tschischney , Kessel and Hallatsch as well as a forest that stretched from Rückers to Passendorf . In 1685 the entire Koritau rule came into his possession. He died in 1708 and Rücker's reign fell to his youngest ( fourth ) son, Baron Christoph Cajetan von Hartig.

When Johann Isaias Freiherr von Hartig died after being raised to the baron status in 1708, he left three sons from his marriage to Anna Katharina Walderode von Eckhausen: Anton Esaias, Johann Hubert and Ludwig Josef. Anton Esaias (1681–1754) is considered to be the founder of the older (Austrian) line and Ludwig Joseph (1685–1736) as the founder of the younger (Bohemian) line.

The eldest son, the imperial real councilor Anton Edler von Hartig (1681–1754), was raised to the rank of count on September 23, 1734 (Vienna?) With the salutation "High and well-born". The same was accepted into the Bohemian counts on March 10, 1735 in Vienna. He was married to Maria Catharina von Hock. The rule of Koritau fell to him by court order in 1711. In Koritau he built the castle. His son Anton Casimir von Hartig sold the Koritau estate in 1761.

The second eldest son, Johann Hubert Freiherr von Hartig (1683-1718) was raised to the Bohemian count on February 28, 1725 . He inherited the Rückers estate from his youngest brother, Christoph Cajetan, who died in 1719 without heirs. Around 1724 he founded the Johannesthal colony there. After his death in 1741, his daughter Maria Antonia inherited the estate. She was married to the Saxon Lieutenant General Franz von Bellegarde and bequeathed the rule of Rücker to her sons Friedrich and Heinrich . Friedrich sold Rücker's rule in 1784.

The third son Ludwig Joseph Freiherr von Hartig (1685–1735), third eldest son of Johann Isaias and grandson of Johann Jakob, received the Bohemian confirmation of the old gentry on July 30, 1711 in Vienna and was appointed as a land rights assessor in the Kingdom of Bohemia with an improvement in the coat of arms on July 20 February 1719 raised to the bohemian count status. On March 10, 1732, the Viennese (?) Elevation to the count status with the address "high and well-born" took place. Ludwig's son Adam Franz Graf von Hartig (1724–1783) was raised to the rank of Imperial Privy Councilor on June 16, 1768 and was electoral Bohemian Reichstag envoy in Regensburg . In 1752 he married Countess Maria Theresa von Kolowrat -Krakowsky from Radenin .

Castle Vartenberk , North Bohemia

His son was the diplomat, historian, poet and geographer Franz Anton von Hartig (1758–1797), landlord on Niemes , Wartenberg , Alteiche and Berskowitz. In 1783 he married Countess Maria Eleonore Colloredo . Their son Franz Graf von Hartig (1789–1865) was an Austrian diplomat, Reichsrat, Minister of State and Conference and a publicist. In 1810 he married Countess Juliana von Grundemann-Falkenberg. They had two sons, Friedrich (1818–1877) and Edmund (1812–1883). With the completion of the construction work in the Mimoň (Niemes) castle , the Counts Hartig moved from Vartenberk Castle to Niemes in 1830 . They use Wartenberg as a guest house and management of the winery. In 1922 the Hartigs sold Vartenberk. The dilapidated Niemes Castle was demolished in 1985.

The family coat of arms of the Counts of Hartig is quartered . I. A black bar in gold, which is covered in the middle with a gold cross and on both sides with a half silver diamond. II. And III. in blue on three-pointed silver rock, a right-facing black eagle ready to fly. IV. In black a golden bar, above and below the black field as in I. Three helmets (all three crowned), on the right with a black and gold cover a gold armored black eagle, on the middle one with black and gold covers a like field I. Golden eagle wing marked with a black diagonal bar, on the left the eagle with blue-silver covers on the rock between two blue buffalo horns . The complete coat of arms includes two opposing gold-armored black eagles as shield holders .
