Rudolf Johann von Meraviglia-Crivelli
Rudolf Johann Graf von Meraviglia-Crivelli (Czech Jan Štěpán hrabě Meraviglia-Crivelli ; born January 15, 1833 in Strakonitz ; † May 26, 1890 ibid) was a Bohemian nobleman and Austrian cavalry master and heraldist .
Origin and career
The ancient noble family of the Meraviglia has been traceable since 1258 with Albertus de Mirabilis and his son Uhizolo, with whom the uninterrupted line of descendants begins. His sons Alberto and Simone divided the family into two lines in the first half of the 14th century. In the line of Simone Mirabilis, his great-great-grandson Stefano married Lucretia Crivella, daughter of Batista Crivelli, on July 24, 1563. Through her will the entails of the Crivelli, including Castellanza near Milan, came to the grandson of Lucretia, Filippo Franzesco Crivelli-Maraviglia. His son Giovanni Stefano ( Johann Stephan ), married to Anna Theresia Malteni, called himself "Meraviglia-Crivelli". He was kk chamberlain, lieutenant colonel and adjutant general in Milan and on October 23, 1761 was elevated to the status of hereditary-Austrian count . In 1758 he married Maria Anna Countess von Mollard , who brought the lords of Gumpendorf near Vienna, Oplavan in Moravia and Olešná , a royal Bohemian fiefdom, into marriage. In 1765 he was accepted into the Bohemian gentry and received the associated inkolat .
Rudolf Johann Graf von Meraviglia-Crivelli graduated from the Theresian Knight Academy in Vienna and became a career officer in 1853. In 1859 he took part in the campaign in northern Italy during the Sardinian War . In 1860 he resigned as Rittmeister. He then managed the family property and devoted himself to heraldic research. As a founding member of the Heraldic-Genealogical Society Adler in Vienna, he published several articles in their magazine. He was also an employee of the New Siebmacher , in which he described the coats of arms of the Bohemian nobility.
