Pagny-le-Chateau is a French commune with 514 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Côte-d'Or department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Beaune and the canton of Brazey-en-Plaine .

history

Over time, the place was named Pancium, Paygnay-le-Château and Pagny-la-Brûlée. The current name refers to a castle that no longer exists.

Attractions

  • The castle chapel. The castle of the Vienne family, built in the 12th century, was rebuilt by Admiral Chabot after its destruction around 1530. Destroyed again in 1774, nothing of the main building has survived. The associated chapel (built from 1297) was in 15./16. Renovated in the 19th century for Gérard de Longvy ( House Longwy ) in the Renaissance style. Large parts of the sculptures and furniture from that time are now in the Philadelphia Museum (USA) and the Louvre , including the tombs of Jean and Jeanne de Vienne and Jean de Longvy.
