Puligny-Montrachet is a French commune in the department of Côte-d'Or in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the canton of Ladoix-Serrigny in the Arrondissement of Beaune .
The municipality is one of the famous wine-growing communities on the Côte de Beaune . It is located with 389 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and an area of 7.28 km² at an altitude of 217 to 435 m above sea level on Departementstraße 113a, about 300 meters west of Route nationale 74 , the Route des Grands Crus , in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune between Santenay and Meursault . The distance to Beaune is twelve kilometers.

Viticulture in Puligny-Montrachet
The famous writer Alexandre Dumas is said to have raved about the exquisite, fruity white wines of this region and assured him that these wines should be drunk "kneeling and with bare heads" .
But very full-bodied, fragrant red wines are also produced.
