The Saône tributary Raie de Saint-Georges marks the southern boundary, the Roye the northern boundary. In the east of the municipality Jallanges has shares in the forest area Forêt Domaniale de Pourlans . In the southeast there is a chain of dammed ponds ( Étang des Greubes, Étang Benjamin, Étang Saint-Georges ). Jallanges has almost grown together with the small town of Seurre , separated only by a stream and an industrial park. In addition to the village of Jallanges , the commune also includes the village of Les Ormes and the hamlet of Ferme de Saint-Georges . Neighboring municipalities of Jallanges are Seurre in the north, Lanthes in the east, Clux-Villeneuve in the southeast, Trugny in the south and Labergement-lès-Seurre in the west.

history

The oldest recorded name of the village is Joulanges from 1294.

Jallanges was built by the inhabitants of Seurre. When the inhabitants of the neighboring village to the north had to leave the place in the 10th century, they built Jallanges just a few hundred meters south. They settled in what is now the hamlet of Saint-Georges around a castle and a church. From the 11th century, Saint-Georges belonged to the Counts of Viemme . The castle and church in Saint-Georges were built by them. The church was looked after by the Augustinians from 1340 . The place was partially demolished in 1549 by the Duke of Guise , the material was used to fortify Seurre. The monastery, rebuilt by the Augustinians, was burned down in 1597 by a Capitaine Lafortune who only spared the chapel. The monks had to have St. George At the latest after the wars of the Fronde , the last monks gave up Saint George. In 1888, Saint-Georges formed part of the municipality of Jallanges with only seven households.

Jallanges' first hop dryer was built in 1870 and destroyed by fire in the early 2000s. Until 1950 around 30 hectares of hops were processed annually. After late blight appeared in 1929, production decreased dramatically; the increasing cost of mechanization and the emergence of new European manufacturers brought hop processing to a complete standstill.

Today Jallanges has neither a church nor a chapel and no cemetery. In June 1989 the village school was closed due to a lack of young people.
