Savigny-lès-Beaune is a French commune with 1305 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and an area of 36 km². It is located in the northern part of the Côte de Beaune , about three and a half kilometers from Beaune west of the RN 74 at an altitude between 229 and 577 m above sea level and belongs to the Côte-d'Or department . Savigny-lès-Beaune is well known for its wines .
history
The Roman settlement Saviniacum became the place Savigny in 936 , which later took its current name. Under the reign (La Régence) of Philippe von Orléans , the Duchess of Maine was assigned a residence in the castle.

Viticulture in Savigny-lès-Beaune
The municipality with the appellation d'Origine Contrôlée of the same name has a total of 350 hectares of cultivated area. Red wines with over 20 Premiers Crus are produced on 212 hectares alone . Of these, the most noteworthy are probably Aux Guettes, Aux Vergelesses, La Dominode, Les Lavières, Les Marconnets, Les Narbantons, Les Peuillets and Les Rouvrettes, which are mainly made from Pinot noir , enriched with Pinot Liébault and Pinot Gris , and under the appellation Savigny -lès-Beaune Premier Cru to be sold.
For reasons of market policy, the wines can also be sold under the Savigny-Côte de Beaune appellation . White wines are also produced here, they are made from the Chardonnay grape with the addition of Pinot Blanc .
Attractions
- The Savigny-lès-Beaune castle with two wings and four round towers dates from the 14th century and was rebuilt after being destroyed in the 17th century. It has been a monument historique since December 18, 1940. Today it contains several museums dedicated to the Abarth car brand , motorcycles and aviation. There is an old mill and a bread bakery on the site, as well as a wash house from the 19th century.
- The church of Saint-Cassien from the 12th and 16th centuries is also registered as a Monument historique (choir and transept since November 10, 1925 and tower from the 12th century since November 28, 1930).
- Small castle from the 18th century with a stucco chapel and numerous wall paintings
- Gallo-Roman statues in the park of the Little Castle
- Remains of the old Roman road from Langres to Autun
Personalities
- Jules Guyot (1807–1872), French doctor and physicist, died in Savigny-lès-Beaune Castle.
- Joseph de Pesquidoux , full name: Pierre Édouard Marie Joseph Dubosc Comte de Pesquidoux (1869-1946), writer and member of the Académie française was born in Savigny-lès-Beaune.
