Viticulture in Chassagne-Montrachet

The Chassagne-Montrachet wine-growing region has had the status of an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC for short) since May 21, 1970 . The area comprises a total of 339 hectares of vineyards, 159 hectares of which belong to the 19 Premier Cru sites. Both white wine (approx. 60% of the amount) and red wines (approx. 40%) are produced in the wine-growing region.

The finest white Burgundy wines grow here on around 7.5 hectares of vineyards. They have a very full bouquet. The noble, complex taste can be called “majestic” without exaggeration. The location "Le Montrachet", surrounded by a low wall and provided with iron gates, so a Clos , is one of the most famous vineyards in the world and is halfway in the Chassagne district. The other part belongs to Puligny. At the location Bâtard-Montrachet (Grand Cru) Chassagne also has a share. Wines are produced here that are very similar to Le Montrachet. The small Grand Cru location Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet belongs entirely to the Chassagne-Montrachet district, the average production from this location is only about 7000 bottles (53 hl). The premiers crus of the municipality are also worth mentioning, all of which have an above-average depth of character.
