Viévy is a French commune with 357 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Côte-d'Or department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region . The inhabitants are called vétivicois .
geography
The municipality of Viévy consists of 14 hamlets: Dracy-Chalas, Chevigny, La Chaume, Thoreille-l-Deffend (also Défens), Morey, Chavenne, Uchey, Poncey, Le Thillot, Ebruyères, Essertenne, Visignot and Veuvrailles. The highest point of the municipality with 435 m is between Dracy-Chalas and Visignot, the deepest with 316 m at the mill of Auxerain, on the banks of the Lacanche river . A Roman road that once connected Augustodunum (today Autun ) with Alesia leads through the municipality . Today this is part of Route départementale 16 .
history
A dedicatory inscription for the Celtic god Alisanus was found in the hamlet of Visignot; the place was then in the tribal area of the Haeduer .
Viévy was known as Vetus Vicum around 840 , this name is the reason for the current name of the inhabitants as Vétivicois . Under the patronage of Saint-Christophe, the parish belonged to the diocese of Autun, as well as the Ballei and the salt tax authority of Arnay-le-Duc .
The population of Viévy decreased from 549 inhabitants (1962) to 340 (2009).
Attractions
The Château d'Auxerain , whose date of origin cannot be precisely determined, belonged in the 14th century to Hugues du Bois, "chevalier, conseiller, chambellan, bailli de Charollois, seigneur d'Ausserain" , an officer of King Philip III. of Burgundy . The castle later fell to the de Tournelle family. Today the building is only a ruin above the Auxerain district.
The Château du Deffend was mentioned in 1461, it was in the hamlet of Deffend (today Thoreille-l-Deffend).
The parish church of Saint-Christophe is built in the Romanesque style .
The Chapelle Saint Amand was built in the 18th century in the hamlet of Dracy-Chalas. Legend has it that the sound of chapel bells keeps storms away.
