geography
The municipality is located eight kilometers from Beaune and 47 kilometers from Dijon . Neighboring municipalities are Tailly , Meursault , Puligny-Montrachet and Ébaty in the Côte-d'Or department and Chaudenay and Demigny in the Saône-et-Loire department .
history
The place goes back to the Haeduer , who settled in the region before the Roman conquest. A villa from the Gallo-Roman period was found north of the village .
The place arose mainly in the 12th and 13th centuries further south around two country houses. There is a castle in the village, which was the seat of various lords from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution. The place has always been shaped by agriculture and above all by viticulture. The Gamay grape in particular was the reason for the prosperity of the village until the phylloxera crisis . Towards the middle of the 19th century, an area of 260 hectares was used for viticulture, which made up almost half of the total area of the municipality. The construction of a railway line in 1850 made it much easier to market the wine in the cities. After a phylloxera crisis, new grape varieties had to be planted. After the Second World War , the area under vines steadily decreased; today only small areas remain.
