Demigny is a commune in the Saône-et-Loire department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in France . The municipality of Demigny belongs to the canton of Gergy (until 2015: canton of Chagny ).

geography

Demigny is located on the Petite Dheune , a branch of the Dheune that was artificially created in the 13th century by Cistercian monks from the Maizières monastery . Neighboring towns in the north and west are Merceuil , Chaudenay , Tailly , Corcelles-les-Arts and Ébaty . There is a large forest area south of Demigny.

Culture and sights

The "Maison du Temple de la Chapelle Demigny" of the Knights Templar dates from the 13th century. The “Château de Demigny” also dates back to the 13th century; it took its present form in the 18th century.

In Demigny is the church "Saint-Martial de Demigny", which was built between 1460 and 1470. The church has a 12- register organ built in 1901 by Charles Didier Van Caster (1852-1906).

In 1852, Émile Guimet , who lived in the Château de Demigny, founded the “La Fanfare de Demigny” wind orchestra. In 1968, due to a lack of musicians, this was attached to the Chagny City Orchestra. In 1987 it returned to Demigny and today (as of 2014) has around 40 musicians, some of whom come from neighboring towns.

The "Demigny on the rock" festival has been held annually since 1990.

Infrastructure

Demigny is located at the intersection of the departmental roads D 19, which connects Demigny with Beaune and Chalon-sur-Saône , and D 62 from Chagny to Saint-Lout-Géanges and on to Verdun-sur-le-Doubs . The A6 autoroute runs nearby . The closest train station is Meursault station, about six kilometers away .
