Bouzeron is a French municipality with 137 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Saône-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . The community is known for the wine-growing region of the same name .

geography

Bouzeron is located at an average altitude of 238 meters above sea ​​level in a valley between the mountains of the Ermitage and the Folie , 14 kilometers northwest of Chalon-sur-Saône , the sub-prefecture of the arrondissement , and 3 kilometers southwest of Chagny , the capital of the canton . The municipality has an area of ​​3.7 square kilometers.

history

Bouzeron was founded in Gallo-Roman times (52 BC to 486 AD) in the 3rd or 4th century and was then called Boserontis Villa , 'Bozeron Estate'. Charles the Bald (823-877) gave the village in 872 to the Abbey of Saint-Marcel-les-Chalon in Saint-Marcel .

In 1793 Bouzeron received as Bouzerons in the course of the French Revolution (1789-1799) the status of a municipality and in 1801 under the current name the right to local self-government. The municipality had the most inhabitants (280) in 1886, and the least (145) in 1999.

Culture and sights

On the border between the baronies of Bouzeron and Monton stand two boundary stones from the 15th century, which are decorated with the coats of arms of the respective noble family. They were classified as Monument historique ('historical monument') in 1915 .

Inside the Saint-Marcel church there is a 17th century statue depicting the local Saint Marcellus. The statue, made of gilded wood, was classified as a Monument historique in 1914.

The archaeological excavation site Camp romain (' Roman military camp ') from prehistoric times is located on Mount Ermitage . It was classified as a Monument historique in 1921.

There is also a lavoir ('wash house') with a fountain from the 19th century.

economy

The most important branch of business in Bouzeron is viticulture , grapes of the Aligoté variety are grown. The locally produced white wine bears the protected designation of origin (AOC) Bouzeron.
