Saint-Loup-de-Varennes is a French municipality with 1161 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the arrondissement Chalon-sur-Saône and is part of the canton of Saint-Rémy (until 2015: canton of Chalon-sur-Saône-Sud ).

Saint-Loup-de-Varennes is about five kilometers south of Chalon-sur-Saône . The Saône limits the municipality in the northeast. Saint-Loup-de-Varennes is surrounded by the neighboring communities Sevrey and Lux in the north, Épervans in the east and north-east, Varennes-le-Grand in the south and La Charmée in the west and south-west.
The Autoroute A6 and the former Route nationale 6 (today's D906) run through the municipality .
