Saint-Germain-d'Auxerre church in Buxy

Buxy is a French commune with 2,136 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the arrondissement of Chalon-sur-Saône and the canton of Givry . The place is about 20 kilometers from Chalon-sur-Saône .

In the vicinity of the place a limestone of the middle Jurassic ( Bajocium ) is quarried, which has gained importance for the building culture of the region and beyond. Applications can be found in Cluny , among others .

history

Buxy (formerly Buxum and Buxiacum, later Bussiacum) was the site of an old hospital that was attached to the Tournus hospital in the 17th century , as well as the seat of a Prévôté ( Vogtei ). The Seigneurie , which initially belonged to the Count of Chalon , came to the Dukes of Burgundy in 1237 , and was in 1477 by King Louis XI. united with the Kingdom of France , so the place was sometimes called "Buxy-le-Royal". In 1565, after marrying Françoise d'Orléans-Longueville, Buxy fell to Louis I de Bourbon , then to their son Charles de Bourbon-Soissons and grandson Louis de Bourbon , who sold the estate to the Marquis d' Uxelles in 1626 .
