Saint-Loup-Géanges is on the Dheune River . In the south, the Vandaine River borders the municipality. Saint-Loup-Géanges is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Sainte-Marie-la-Blanche in the north, Meursanges in the north and northeast, Chevigny-en-Valière in the northeast, Saint-Gervais-en-Vallière in the east, Allerey-sur-Saône in the South-east, Gergy in the south, Demigny in the west and Merceuil in the west and northwest.

In 2003, the municipalities of Saint-Loup-de-la-Salle and Géanges were merged after positive votes from the municipalities.
