Messey-sur-Grosne is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Jully-lès-Buxy in the north and north-west, Saint-Ambreuil in the north-east, Lalheue in the east, La Chapelle-de-Bragny in the south and south-east, Santilly in the south and Saint-Boil in the west as well as Chenôves to the west and northwest.
