Saint-Ambreuil is a French municipality with 506 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté ; it belongs to the arrondissement Chalon-sur-Saône and is part of the canton of Tournus (until 2015: canton of Sennecey-le-Grand ).

Saint-Ambreuil is about nine kilometers south of Chalon-sur-Saône on the Grosne . Saint-Ambreuil is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Charmée in the north, Varennes-le-Grand in the north and north-east, Saint-Cyr in the east, Beaumont-sur-Grosne in the south-east, Laives in the south, Lalheue in the south and south-west, Messey-sur -Grosne to the west and south-west, Jully-lès-Buxy to the west and north-west, and Saint-Germain-lès-Buxy to the north-west.
