Saint-Ambreuil is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Charmée in the north, Varennes-le-Grand in the north and north-east, Saint-Cyr in the east, Beaumont-sur-Grosne in the south-east, Laives in the south, Lalheue in the south and south-west, Messey-sur -Grosne to the west and south-west, Jully-lès-Buxy to the west and north-west, and Saint-Germain-lès-Buxy to the north-west.
