Ciel is a French municipality with 769 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the arrondissement Chalon-sur-Saône and is part of the canton of Gergy (until 2015: canton of Verdun-sur-le-Doubs ).

Ciel is bounded to the north by the Doubs and is located about 14 kilometers northeast of Chalon-sur-Saône . Ciel is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Les Bordes in the north, Saunières in the north and northeast, Sermesse in the northeast, Toutenant in the east, Saint-Didier-en-Bresse in the southeast, Saint-Martin-en-Bresse in the south, and Saint-Maurice-en -Rivière in the west and south-west and Verdun-sur-le-Doubs in the west and north-west.
