It belongs to the arrondissement Chalon-sur-Saône and is part of the canton Gergy (until 2015 Verdun-sur-le-Doubs ).

Mont-lès-Seurre is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Trugny in the north and north-east, Clux-Villeneuve in the east, Navilly in the south and south-east, Pontoux in the south and south-west, Charnay-lès-Chalon in the south-west and Chivres in the west and north-west.
