Montagny-lès-Buxy is a French municipality with 218 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

Montagny-lès-Buxy is located in the southern part of the Côte Chalonnaise , about 38 km south of Beaune and 16 km southwest of Chalon-sur-Saône at an altitude between 245 and 415 m above sea level.
history
Already in 885 the place was mentioned as Montanum as dependent on the church of Lyon. Later the place belonged to the bishop of the Saint-Vincent de Chalon chapter .

Viticulture in Montagny-lès-Buxy
Montagny is the southernmost point of the Côte Chalonnaise and is already on the border with the Mâconnais . Under the appellation Montagny, the wine is sold by four municipalities, namely Buxy, Saint-Vallerin, Jully-lès-Buxy and finally Montagny. The appellation applies only to white wines from the Chardonnay vine. The cultivation area covers 476 hectares, of which 276 hectares can claim the designation "Premier Cru". Only in the field of Montagny even allowed individual layers are named. In 2002, a total of 17,165 hectoliters were produced on an area of over 350 hectares - 220 hectares of which were Premier Cru.
