The Route nationale 6 , N 6 or RN 6 for short , is a French national road that emerged from Route impériale 7 in 1824. First it ran from Joigny to the border at Le Pont-de-Beauvoisin. After Savoy became part of France in 1860, the extension to the Italian border took place at Col du Mont Cenis at 2081 meters above sea level, where from 1928 the Strada Statale 25 connects to Turin . From then on, its length was 597 kilometers. In 1947, its length grew, as it got the part of the SS25 that had been added to France by moving the border after the Second World War. In 1949, when the national roads were restructured to form long routes, it was extended back to Route nationale 5 in Sens , taking over the route of the N 5bis on this section. The length grew by 31.5 kilometers. During the first major downgrade wave in 1973, it took over the section from Sens to Paris from the N 5 :

  • N 5 Paris - Sens
  • N 6 Sens - Italian border

In 2006 it was then completely downgraded except for a few short sections near Paris, Auxerre and Lyon . In Bron near Lyon, the straight line of the road was replaced by a long curve due to the extension of the runway of the airport there .

N 6a

The Route nationale 6 A , or N 6 A or RN 6 A for short , was a national road first established in 1883, which branched off from the N6 in Fleurville and led via Saône. This became part of N433 A in 1933 and is described in more detail in the main article N6 A. 1933 N6 side branch was A N6 as an alternative route to her within Lyon by Umnummerung the N6 B . This was downgraded to a municipal road as early as 1957. In 1974 the bridge over which it ran was demolished. In 1965 a new side branch N6 A was built as a connection between junction 22 of the newly opened A6 and the N6 at Avallon. This became the N146 in 1978 and the D646 in 2006.

N 6b

The Route nationale 6 B , N 6 B or RN 6 B for short , was a branch of the N6, which existed in 1933 as an alternative route to it within Lyon. He was in the same year to N6 A rededicated.
