Vermenton is a French commune with 1,289 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Yonne in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the arrondissement of Auxerre and the canton of Joux-la-Ville (until 2015: canton of Vermenton ). The inhabitants are called Vermentonnais .

It was created as the Commune nouvelle of the same name with effect from January 1, 2016 through the integration of the previous municipality of Sacy , which has the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Vermenton.

geography

Vermenton is located 19 kilometers south-east of Auxerre on a wooded plateau between the Cure and Serein rivers . Vermenton is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Cravant in the north and north-west, Saint-Cyr-les-Colons and Lichères-près-Aigremont in the north-east, Nitry in the east, Joux-la-Ville in the south-east, Lucy-sur-Cure and Bessy-sur- Cure in the south and Accolay in the west and southwest.

Vermenton is connected to the Canal du Nivernais by the approximately four kilometer long branch canal of the Canal d'Accolay .
