history
The place was a fiefdom of a branch of the House of Courtenay . This line died out in 1472 with John IV of Courtenay-Champignelles.
Louis René de Rogres de Lusignan, born in 1705 and died in Champignelles in 1784, was Vogt of Champignelles. His daughter Adelaïde-Marie married Marquis Louis-Joseph de Douhault in the Château de Champignelles on August 28, 1764. She died on January 17, 1788, which gave her brother Armand-Louis de Rogres de Lusignan the entire inheritance, the title of Bailiff of Champignelles and the communes of Château-Renard and Lorris. A few days later a woman, possibly Anne Buiret, pretended to be Adelaïde-Marie de Douhault and claimed that her brother had tried to kill her to get the inheritance. She was imprisoned in the Salpêtrière from 1786 to 1789 . She ended up launching a lawsuit that was well known at the time, in the course of which she was awarded some property, although the case was never really resolved. The court ruled that she was neither Buiret nor the Marquise, and she became known as an example of an unnamed person, la femme sans nom . It is believed that she provided the template for Wilkie Collins' thriller The Woman In White (1858). Louis Armand de Rogres de Lusignan fled the thugs of the French Revolution in 1792 , was pardoned and returned in 1793. He died in 1803. The woman who said she was his sister died in 1832.
The place was called Champignelle until 1801 .
