Poilly-sur-Tholon is a French municipality with 688 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Yonne in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Auxerre . The municipality belongs to the canton of Charny (until 2015: canton of Aillant-sur-Tholon ).

Poilly-sur-Tholon is about 15 kilometers northwest of Auxerre . However, the municipal area is not - as the name suggests - affected by the Tholon river , but by the parallel ravillon . Poilly-sur-Tholon is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Valravillon (previously: Laduz ) in the north, Fleury-la-Vallée in the east and north-east, Charbuy in the south-east, Lindry in the south and south-east, Égleny in the south and south-west, Saint-Maurice-le -Vieil and Saint-Maurice-Thizouaille in the southwest, Chassy in the west and Montholon (previously: Aillant-sur-Tholon ) in the west and northwest.
