Lavau is a French commune in the department of Yonne in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comte with 464 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017). Lavau is located in the Auxerre arrondissement and belongs to the canton of Cœur de Puisaye (until 2015: canton of Saint-Fargeau ).

Lavau is located about 49 kilometers west-southwest of the city center of Auxerres . Lavau is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Privé and Saint-Martin-des-Champs in the north, Saint-Fargeau in the east and northeast, Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye in the southeast, Arquain in the south, Faverelles in the west, Batilly-en- Puisaye in the west and northwest and champoulet in the northwest.
