Courgis is a commune in the French department of Yonne ( Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region ) near Auxerre and Pontigny . The community has 257 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), has an area of 10.04 km² and is 169 meters above sea level. Courgis is not far from Chablis .
Economy and Infrastructure
Courgis is a predominantly agricultural ( viticulture and fruit growing ) village. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The Chablis is the northernmost wine-growing region in Burgundy . Only Chardonnay is grown on the limestone slopes. The vineyards are spread over Courgis and 19 neighboring municipalities. The winemakers also have the right to use the regional designations of origin Bourgogne , Bourgogne Aligoté , Bourgogne Passetoutgrain , Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire and Crémant de Bourgogne .
Population development
With 257 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Courgis is one of the small communities in the Yonne department. After the number of inhabitants decreased in the first half of the 20th century, the number of inhabitants has stabilized again since the early 1980s.

Personalities
