The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Auxerre and the canton of Vincelles (until 2015 canton of Courson-les-Carrières ). The residents call themselves Fouronnais .

Fouronnes is located in the south of the Puisaye countryside , about 20 kilometers south of Auxerre . Fouronnes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Charentenay in the north, Fontenay-sous-Fouronnes in the east, Mailly-le-Château in the south and south-east and Courson-les-Carrières in the west.
