Fontenoy Town Hall (Mairie)

Fontenoy is a French municipality with 296 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Yonne department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté (before 2016 Bourgogne ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Auxerre and the canton of Vincelles (until 2015 Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye ). The inhabitants are called Puifontains .

geography

Fontenoy is about 28 kilometers southwest of Auxerre . Fontenoy is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Lalande in the north, Levis in the east and northeast, Sementron in the east, Lain in the southeast, Saints-en-Puisaye in the south and west, and Fontaines in the northwest.

history

As part of the wars of succession of Ludwig the Pious , there was a battle here in 841 between Lothar I and Pippin II on the one hand and Charles the Bald and Ludwig the German . The latter emerged victorious from the dispute.
