Pippin II (Aquitaine)
Pippin II (* probably 823; † after 864 in Senlis ) succeeded his father in 838 as King of Aquitaine . He is not to be confused with his ancestor Pippin II the Middle († 714).
Life
Pippin II was the eldest son of King Pippin I of Aquitaine and of the Ringart von Madrie , daughter of Count Theudbert von Madrie.
A dispute with Charles the Bald over rule in Aquitaine ended for Pippin in the dismissal in 848 and culminated in 852 in the monastery in Saint-Médard in Soissons . In 854, Pippin managed to escape from custody and, in alliance with the Loire-Normans, to regain parts of Aquitanian rule; in 864, however, he was finally imprisoned in Senlis, where he also died.
