Gurgy is a French commune with 1,716 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Yonne department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté ; it belongs to the arrondissement Auxerre and the canton Auxerre-2 (until 2015: canton Seignelay ). The inhabitants are called Gurgycois .

geography

Gurgy is about seven kilometers north of Auxerre on the River Yonne . Gurgy is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Chemilly-sur-Yonne in the north, Seignelay in the northeast, Héry in the east and northeast, Monéteau in the south and southeast, Appoigny in the west and southwest and Chichery in the northwest.
