Vergigny is a French commune with 1,549 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Yonne department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Auxerre and the canton of Saint-Florentin .
geography
Vergigny is about 18 kilometers north-northeast of Auxerre . The Canal de Bourgogne flows along the northern edge of the municipality, just like the small river Armançon . Vergigny is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Florentin in the north, Chéu in the east and northeast, Ligny-le-Châtel in the east and southeast, Pontigny in the south, Rouvray in the south and southwest, Héry in the southwest and Mont-Saint-Sulpice in the west.
Route nationale 77 runs through the municipality .
