Charentenay is a commune in the French department of Yonne ( Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region ). The municipality has 297 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), belongs to the arrondissement of Auxerre and the canton of Vincelles (until 2015: canton of Coulanges-la-Vineuse ).

Charentenay is about nine kilometers south-southwest of Auxerre . Charentenay is surrounded by the neighboring communities Migé in the north, Val-de-Mercy in the north and northeast, Fontenay-sous-Fouronnes in the east and southeast, Fouronnes in the south, Courson-es-Carrières in the southwest and Mouffy in the west.
