Villeneuve-les-Genêts is a French municipality with 281 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Yonne department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Auxerre and the canton of Cœur de Puisaye (until 2015: canton of Bléneau ). The inhabitants are called Tannerrois .

Villeneuve-les-Genêts is located about 36 kilometers west-southwest of Auxerre on the Agréau river . Villeneuve-les-Genêts is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Champignelles in the north, Tannerre-en-Puisaye in the east, Saint-Fargeau in the south and Saint-Privé in the west and southwest.
