It is assigned to the canton of Joux-la-Ville (until 2015 Vermenton ) and the arrondissement of Auxerre . The inhabitants are called Bazarnais .

Bazarnes is 16 kilometers south-southeast of Auxerre on the Yonne , which borders the municipality in the east. Bazarnes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vincelles in the north, Deux Rivières in the northeast, Sainte-Pallaye in the east, Prégilbert in the southeast, Trucy-sur-Yonne in the south, Fontenay-sous-Fouronnes in the southwest and Val-de-Mercy in the west.
