Sommecaise is a French municipality with 369 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Yonne in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté (before 2016 Bourgogne ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Auxerre . The municipality is part of the canton of Charny ( Aillant-sur-Tholon until 2015 ).

Sommecaise is about 28 kilometers west-northwest of Auxerre . Sommecaise is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Ferté-Loupière in the north, Les Ormes in the east, Le Val d'Ocre in the southeast, Villiers-Saint-Benoît in the south and Charny Orée de Puisaye in the west.
