The Kollegiatstift Cölln (often wrongly called Domstift ) was a collegiate foundation in the city of Cölln in today's center of Berlin from 1465 to 1608.

history

The monastery was founded in 1465 at the Erasmus Church in the castle of the Electors in Cölln. In 1469 the constitution and the income were established.

In 1536 the monastery was moved to the previous Dominican monastery , the monks there went to the monastery in Brandenburg or were accepted into the cathedral monastery.

In 1539 the Lord's Supper was first distributed in both forms in the cathedral church as the beginning of the Reformation in Brandenburg, but the monastery retained the Catholic rite for many years. It was not until 1577 that a Protestant order of worship was printed. In 1598 an application was made to abolish the old ornamented garments.

In 1608 the monastery was dissolved by Elector Joachim Friedrich and the cathedral became a parish church.

Constitution

Since 1469 the collegiate monastery consisted of nine canons (and at that time five choir students). These did not belong to any order, were secular canons . For them there was an official residence obligation, that is, they were obliged to regularly attend the choir prayers themselves, if they threatened to lose the benefice. Representation by vicars as in other collegiate colleges is nowhere mentioned in the written messages.

The chapter was presided over by a provost and a dean who organized the monastery internally. There was also a thesaurarius (treasurer) and a plebanus (pastor). The monastery was often incorrectly referred to as the cathedral monastery , the capitulars as canons and the church as the cathedral . This designation was actually only given to pens at diocese cathedrals that elected and supported the bishop. The wrong designations should enhance the monastery, also in competition with the Brandenburg cathedral monastery .

economy

The monastery had income from interest and lease income from land ownership, from customs duties, altars and churches. It owned the patronage of the churches in Schönefeld, Wustermark, Hoppenrade, Wesendahl, Ladeburg and Kaulsdorf.
