Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Burgundy wine region. The regional appellation Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire is practically congruent with the wine-growing region of Burgundy.

The Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire wine-growing region is a regional appellation of the Burgundy wine-growing region . Until 1971 there was still the name Bourgogne Ordinaire . Regional means that every wine from the Greater Burgundy region can bear this name, provided it meets minimum requirements. Since July 31, 1937, these provisions have been recorded as part of an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC for short). Red and rosé wines as well as white wines fall under the minimum requirements. The simple and fresh red wine should be stored for a maximum of 2 to 3 years. The drinking temperature should be a cool 13–15 ° C. The drinking temperature of the white wines to be enjoyed in their youth is 9–11 ° C.

In 2006 only 132.01 hectares were declared under this designation of origin . The production volume between 2003 and 2007 averaged 4,910 hectoliters of red and rosé wine and 1381 hectoliters of white wine. For more than 30 years, the declared production volume has been decreasing continuously, as the name is getting more and more marketing problems.

Grape varieties

  • For the red and rosé , the two varieties are Gamay and Pinot Noir ( Pinot Noir ) admitted. The regulations also mention the Pinot Liébault variety , but nowadays it is more of a clone of the Pinot Noir . In the Yonne department, the César and Tressot varieties can also be used. The harvest restriction is 55 hectoliters / hectare, the minimum alcohol content is 9.0%. The regulation requires that the must for red wine contains at least 144 grams of sugar per liter (→ must weight ), while this value for rosé wine is 136 g / l. If a chaptalization is approved in bad years , the alcohol content of the finished fermented wine must not exceed 12.0% by volume.
  • For white wine , the varieties Chardonnay , Pinot blanc , Aligoté , Melon de Bourgogne and Sacy (this variety only in the Yonne department) are permitted. The harvest restriction is 60 hectoliters / hectare, the minimum alcohol content is 9.5%. The minimum must weight is 144 g / l. If a chaptalization is approved in bad years, the alcohol content of the finished fermented wine must not exceed 12.5% by volume.
