Chenôve is a French municipality with 13,910 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Côte-d'Or department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Since January 1, 2000, the Dijon suburb has been part of the Dijon Métropole municipal association . Chenôve is the third most populous municipality in the Côte-d'Or department.
history
Chenôve is one of the oldest villages on the Côte-d'Or. The name refers to the cultivation of hemp (French "chanvre") in ancient times. In his will of 653, Leodegar von Autun donated the village to his cathedral. The donation was made in 1132 by Pope Innocent III. approved. From the XX. The cultivation of wine in Chenôve is mentioned in the 18th century, and from 1228 the winery of the Dukes of Burgundy ("Clos des Ducs"). The construction of the first ducal wine press was initiated in 1238 by Alix von Vergy. In 1404 to 1407 the presses were renewed. In 1477, after the death of Charles the Bold, the winery is taken over by the French King Louis XI ("Clos du Roi"). From the 20th century, industrial plants were built in the south of the wine village. In particular, the construction of a railway system created many jobs after the First World War. Chenôve experienced a rapid increase in population. During the Second World War there was organized resistance against the German occupation in Chenôve. The place was hit by air raids in 1944 and liberated by the Allies on September 11, 1944. The sharp increase in population from the 1950s onwards led to a housing shortage that could be averted with the construction of new apartments. In 1973 the construction concept was largely completed.
