Mâlain is a French commune in the Côte-d'Or department with 747 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region . Mâlain ("Mediolanum") was founded in 70 BC, the community extends over 200 hectares. The original name of the community is of Gallic origin and can be translated as "middle of the plane" or "central plane". A fortress was built over the village in the 11th century.

Mâlain is located 15 kilometers west of Dijon in a side valley of the Ouche in the Bourgogne wine-growing region on the Paris – Marseille railway line .
