It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dijon and the canton of Is-sur-Tille (until 2015 Selongey ). The inhabitants are called Échevannais .

Échevannes is located around 25 kilometers north-northeast of Dijon . The river Tille limits the municipality to the south and west. Neighboring municipalities are Crécey-sur-Tille in the north, Selongey in the north-east, Til-Châtel in the south and east and Is-sur-Tille in the west and south-west.
