It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dijon and the Canton of Talant (until 2015 Sombernon ). The inhabitants are called Ouchimariens .

Sainte-Marie-sur-Ouche is located about 19 kilometers west-southwest of Dijon am Ouche . The municipality is surrounded by Mâlain in the north, Fleurey-sur-Ouche in the east and northeast, Arcey in the east and southeast, Gissey-sur-Ouche in the south and southwest, Agey in the west and Prâlon in the north-west.

The A38 autoroute runs through the municipality .
