Kung Ranes Hög
Kung Ranes Hög is a prehistoric hill next to Flistad Church , about 20 km north of Skövde in Västergötland in Sweden .
The hill about five meters high is about 25 m in diameter with a surface that is uneven to the north and east. The top is flat and five meters in diameter. There used to be a tree on it, of which only a stump is left.
It is said that a king named Rane is buried in the hill. If there was ever " Odin's Land", as the skalds Brage Broddarsson and Snorri Sturluson wrote it, it must have been between Vänern and Vättern . Here is the ship settlement of Askeberga (also Ranes Stenar; called - Rane was one of Odin's names in the region).
Large hills with a diameter of more than 30 meters are often called Kungshögen in Sweden ( German "Königshügel" - Sättuna Kungshög ; Kungshögen Nysäter and Högsäter and the Kungshögarna of Malmö-Oxie ). They are mainly to be found around the Mälaren . The large mounds often date from the younger Iron Age . Some of the largest are: Anundshög in Västmanland , Grönehög in Bohuslän , Högom in Medelpad , Inglinge hög in Småland , Ledbergs kulle in Östergötland , Skalunda hög in Västergötland , Ströbo hög in Västmanland and the three hills in Alt-Uppsala in Uppland. The church of Götlunda is nearby .
