Kong Rans Høj
The Kong Rans Høj ( German King Rans Hill ) is a large hill with a flat top, whose king name (Ran) should be included in the place name (Randbøl). It is north of the church on Randbøl Kirkegård (cemetery), west of Vejle in Jutland in Denmark .
This hill shape, called Dansehøje ( German dance hill ), comes from the transition from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age . When the hill was excavated in 1840, urns from the Late Bronze Age were found.
In the area around Randbøl and along old Hærvejen there are several flat-topped hills; 300 m from the church in the direction of Vandel two smaller ones and about 1 km in the direction of Bække one large one. Hills like this are always associated with a corresponding legend .
Mythical royal names are also linked to prehistoric monuments in other places in Denmark:
- Kong Asger Høj (on Møn ),
- Kong Dyver Sten, Kong Grøns Høj , Kong Svends Høj (all on Lolland )
- Kong Humbles Grav , Kong Holms Høj , Kong Renes Høj (all on Langeland )
- Kong Lavses Grav (on Lyø )
- Kong Knaps Dige (a rampart), Kong Lavses Grav (both in Jutland ),
- Kong Haralds Dysse , Kong Øres Grav , Kong Skjolds Høj, Kong Slags Dysse , Kong Svends Høj (a barrow ) and Kong Suders Høj (all on Zealand ).
