Kungshögarna from Malmö-Oxie

The Kungshögarna are two burial mounds from the Bronze Age , which lie on a natural ridge north of Malmö- Oxie near the E 65 in Skåne in Sweden . They are part of a Bronze Age range of hills that extends from Lund via Fosie and Oxie to Trelleborg . The two from around 1300 BC Hills dating back to the 4th century BC were robbed, as evidenced by pits in their crests. Finds from the hills are not known.

The name Oxie is a combination of words. The suffix "-ie" is an abbreviation of the Danish word Høje - for burial mound. "Os" denotes the mouth of a stream or a spring. Immediately next to the hills there used to be a high-lying pond, which must have got its water from a spring. It is therefore likely that the dominant heights in the landscape gave the name to the village of Oxie. The name "Kungshöga" appears for the first time on Gerhard von Buhrman's (1653–1701) card from 1684.

The archaeologist Nils Gustaf Bruzelius (1826–1895) describes the hills in the 1840s and calls them Kungs or Oshö yarns. The larger one is about six meters high and about 30 meters in diameter. Two stones on the edge suggest that the hill may have been surrounded by curbs. At the edge of the hill, urns containing burned bones were buried during the later Bronze Age and the earlier Iron Age. The other has been plowed over the years and is about 3.5 m high and 21 m in diameter.

Large hills with a diameter of more than 30 meters are often called Kungshögen ( German  "Königshügel" ) in Sweden , for example Sättuna Kungshög ; Kungshögen Högsäter and Nysäter; and the Kungshögen (Höllviken) . They are mainly to be found around the Mälaren . The large mounds often date from the younger Iron Age . Some of the largest are: Anundshög in Västmanland , Grönehög in Bohuslän , Högom in Medelpad , Inglinge hög in Småland , Ledbergs kulle in Östergötland , Skalunda hög in Västergötland , Ströbo hög in Västmanland and the three hills in Alt-Uppsala in Uppland .
