For the first 16 kilometers, the E 65 is developed as a motorway. It begins at Inre Ringvägen in Malmö and runs from there at the Fredriksberg junction (with the E 6 , E 20 and E 22 ) through the extensive, flat landscape of the Skåne County . A wooded piece begins behind the Sturup exit . The motorway ends there, shortly before Malmö Airport .
There are plans to extend the motorway by 5 km to Sturup. In the national renovation plan of 2009 it was announced that construction is expected to start in 2018. As a temporary solution, a roundabout was built at the site in 2007.
The E 65 runs between Sturup and Skurup as a motorway-like road with two lanes per lane, which could also be expanded as a motorway. However, there are currently no plans, which is often criticized. The road runs east of Skurup with a total of two lanes and only one lane to Ystad . In Yastad the road runs together with Riksväg 9 on “Dag Hammarskjölds väg” (until 2005 “Ringleden”).
