Skurup is a place ( Tatort ) in the southern Swedish province of Skåne län and the historic province of Skåne .

It is the capital of the municipality of the same name . Skurup owes its development mainly to its location on the Malmö - Ystad railway line . The settlement advertises itself with the popular slogan “When in Europe - don't miss Skurup” .

The development consists mainly of villas and single-family houses, but there are also certain areas with multi-family houses. In Skurup there are four primary and intermediate schools as well as a high school, which is housed in the former agricultural school.

Economy and Transport

Most residents commute to work in Malmö or Lund . The largest companies in the area are Skanem , Lidbergs Grafiska and Postpac , which are involved in printing and packaging. The municipal administration offices and the largest shops in the municipality are concentrated in Skurup.

The Malmö – Ystad railway line was electrified in 1996. The direct connection over the Öresund Bridge to Copenhagen , opened in 2000, was discontinued on December 9, 2017. The airport for the Skåne region , Malmö Airport , is only 15 minutes by car from the town center.

history

First there was a village that got a church in the 12th century. In the Middle Ages a castle was built, which was demolished after the Svaneholm Castle was built. After that, the village of Skurup was part of the Svaneholm estate. At the end of the 18th century, the farmers were allowed to live directly on their own property, which led to the village being temporarily closed.

A new upswing came with the inauguration of the new railway line in 1874. New businesses emerged. B. made bricks, dairy products and farming tools. The status of a minority town (köping) obtained in 1914 was no longer relevant after the administrative reform of 1971.
