In the Norwegian part, the E 10 runs over ten bridges and through twelve tunnels . The longest tunnels are the Sørdalstunnelen (6338 m) and the Sløverfjordtunnelen (3337 m)

In its Swedish part, the street is called Europaväg 10 .

The E 10 runs in short sections together with three other European roads:

  • With the E 6 from Bjerkvik to Trældal (Nygård) near Narvik (18 km)
  • With the E 45 north of Gällivare (66 km)
  • With the E 4 from Töre to Luleå (46 km)

history

The Kiruna – Narvik section was not built until the early 1980s and in the Swedish part runs largely parallel to the ore railway that went into operation in 1903 . In 1984 this section was made by the Norwegian King Olav V and the Swedish King Carl XVI. Gustaf inaugurated. In the Norwegian part, the E 10 is now called "Kong Olav Vs vei".

On December 1, 2007, the Lofast , a new section between Fiskebøl on Austvågøya and Gullesfjord on Hinnøya, opened. This is 51 km long and shortens the E 10 by 30 kilometers. This means that the ferry crossing between Melbu and Fiskebøl is no longer necessary to reach Lofoten from the north.

Today's E 10 has only had this name since 1992. Before that, the Norwegian section Å – Bjerkvik (Bjerkvik is north of Narvik on the E 6) was designated as “Riksvei 19”, the section to the Swedish border (Bjørnfjellvegen) completed in 1984 as “Riksvei 70 ”and the Swedish section Riksgränsen –Töre as“ Riksväg 98 ”.

Before 1985, E 10 was the name for the Paris - Brussels - Amsterdam - Groningen route .
