The E34 near Kamen

Until the 1990s, the section between Antwerp and Knokke-Heist ( N49 ) was not yet a motorway and was very unattractive to drive due to the many traffic lights and the 90 km / h speed limit. Currently, about half of the route has been developed as a motorway ( A11 ). The remaining part of the N49 is still to be expanded into a motorway.

From Antwerp, the E34 runs together with the Antwerp ring road ( R1 ) to the Antwerp-East junction . From there it runs for about 4 km together with the A13 to the Ranst junction , from where it then runs together with the A21 to the Dutch border. In the Netherlands it then leads past Eindhoven and Venlo as the A67 .

In Germany, the route continues from the Straelen border crossing to Kreuz Kaiserberg ( Duisburg , A40 ), from where it continues along with the A3 to Kreuz Oberhausen . The E 34 crosses the E 31 at Moers and runs from Duisburg to Oberhausen together with the E 35 on the route of the Autobahn 3. At the Oberhausen junction, the paths separate again, from here the E 34 runs on the A 2. At Kamen crosses the E 37, which runs on the route of the A 1; The E 34 ends at Bad Oeynhausen and is swallowed up by the E 30 coming from the A 30 / B 61.

Cities

The E34 begins in the Belgian village of Westkapelle near the port city of Knokke-Heist . From there it runs through the municipality of Maldegem and past Zelzate to Antwerp . From there it continues past the small town of Ranst to Eindhoven . Then it goes on past the Dutch city of Venlo to the middle of the Ruhr area to Duisburg . Past Oberhausen and Dortmund , the E34 ends in Bad Oeynhausen in East Westphalia .
