List of highways in Belgium
95 percent of Belgian motorways are also European roads . At least this part is also continuously illuminated. Despite the existing national numbering, the Belgian signposts on the motorways and rings essentially only indicate the European roads. Only the rings of Brussels and Antwerp and the few motorway sections that are not designated as European roads are signposted nationally and noticeably appear. Few sections of the rings in Belgium (e.g. parts of the Brussels ring) are not consistently run as a motorway, but entirely at least four lanes. The restriction, which can only be removed with great effort, usually consists of a cross-section that is too narrow and the steep gradients / inclines in road tunnels that are characteristic of Belgium.
Belgian motorway junctions are characterized by a special type of unbundling: two motorways to be connected are run in parallel for several kilometers. In contrast to the lanes, which are separated from one another by the usual long-striped markings, the two halves of the motorway in the parallel area are separated from one another by wide, short lines. You can line up on the desired motorway up to its fork.
The Belgian federal government introduced a motorway toll (7 to 30 cents per km) on April 1, 2016 . It applies to vehicles over 3.5 tons. It is paid by OBU (On Board Unit). The operator of the toll system is the company Satellic .
