The Belgian Autobahn 8 , also on French. Autoroute 8 or Dutch Called Autosnelweg 8 , it runs for 73 kilometers from east to west. It begins southwest of Brussels near Halle , where it emerges from the N203a at the level of the N6, which connects to the Brussels ring R0 . The end of the A8 is at the border with France between Lille and Tournai , where the A8 merges into the French autoroute A27 .

The route was completely completed with the release of the last section in the province of Hainaut . Since the province could not finance the construction of the motorway independently, SOFICO ( Société de Financement complémentaire des Infrastructures , German: Society for additional financing of infrastructures ) took over. To this day, the province has to give part of the taxes to the organization. For this purpose, special counting machines were installed on the motorway to monitor the number of vehicles passing through.

The last section was immediately the most expensive, as many bridges and 2 tunnels had to be built, as this area is very densely populated and has a dense road network.

The HSL 1 high-speed rail line runs partly in bundling traffic routes with the motorway.

Course as a European route

On the entire route it is run as the E 429 , and from the Échangeur de Tournai onwards as the E 42 .
